Major Gifts Coordinator

POSITION SUMMARY:

NETWORK , A National Catholic Social Justice Lobby in Washington, DC, seeks a Major Gifts Coordinator for a 1.3 million operating budget. Serving a faith-based mission to realize economic and social justice through our nation’s policies, this member-driven organization began in 1971. Our development efforts are closely tied to our mission to educate and politically mobilize our members and offer development staff an opportunity for highly integrated work with our lobbyists, field organizers and communications outreach.

Valuing equality, collaboration and an internalized commitment to the mission, the NETWORK environment is structured so that each staff member is allowed and expected to have responsibility in his/her department as well as attend to the administrative needs of the department. The Major Gifts Coordinator works closely with the Executive Director and the Board of Directors.

JOB POSITION DESCRIPTION

 POSITION TITLE: Major Gifts Coordinator

 POSITION SUMMARY: The Major Gifts Coordinator plans, implements and evaluates fundraising programs to raise gifts $1,000 and above for NETWORK Lobby and NETWORK Education Program.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: (in order of importance/time allocated)

 Responsibilities Specific to this Position:

1. Manage the major donor program. (50%)

  • Develop, implement and evaluate plans for cultivating and soliciting gifts from current major donors and identifying new major donors.
  • Solicit gifts from major donors and major donor prospects.
  • Coordinate cultivation and solicitation of major gifts by the Executive Director, Board members and Advisory Council members.

2. Collaborate on grant seeking program. (20%)

  • Identify grant application opportunities through developing relationships with Foundation program officers.
  • Review grant applications and draft progress reports.

3. Manage planned giving program. (10%)

  • Market NETWORK and NEP’s planned giving options to the membership.
  • Identify planned giving prospects.
  • Cultivate and solicit planned gifts.

Shared Responsibilities with Annual Giving Coordinator (20%):

1. Create, implement and evaluate a comprehensive development plan to ensure membership growth and retention, and to expand the major donor and grant seeking programs.

2. Draft and oversee publication of the annual report and membership brochures.

3. Represent NETWORK and NEP at public events such as conferences.

4. Collaborate on grant opportunities and relationships.

5. Demonstrate accountability for fundraising to staff and Board.

6. Continue professional development to update skills, and bring new ideas into the organizations

SKILLS NEEDED:

  • Commitment to the mission and vision of NETWORK and NEP.
  • Demonstrated success at identifying major gift prospects and soliciting major gifts or equivalent success in other external fundraising or sales positions.
  • Must be a self-starter, outgoing, able to inspire others, and happy working in a collaborative manner.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work under pressure, meet deadlines and manage multiple projects.
  • Familiarity with “anti-racism” and commitment to building an anti-racist organization.

 

Preferred skills and experience:

  • Familiarity with the progressive Catholic environment and with religious communities in the United States.
  • Budgeting
  • Database: ResultsPlus 9.5 by Metafile
  • At least 3 years of major gifts experience

Some travel is required for this position.
