How has our broken immigration system led to violation of labor laws?

In response to complaints about poor working conditions, employers have repeatedly threatened undocumented workers with deportation and arrest. Some have gone so far as to initiate contact with Immigration and Customs Enforcement. Both of these practices are illegal, as American labor laws protect all workers, regardless of status. Nevertheless, these statutes go unenforced. Moving forward, policy must ensure that immigration enforcement does not interfere with the fundamental rights of all human beings.
