Why is it important to preserve the family-based immigration system?

The American government has always viewed family-based immigration as critical to our nation, even in times of war or economic hardship. Family-based immigration, (as opposed to employment-based immigration), provides a level of dignity and respect inherent to human existence to an emotionally challenging process. Family-based immigrants are more likely to start businesses, and less likely to suffer from health or social problems than those who immigrate because of an individual skill.
