Equal Pay for Women and Men

NETWORK supports H.R 12, the Paycheck Fairness Act, since we believe that this policy works to reduce the polarization of wages between a woman and a man and holds employers accountable to pay men and women equal pay for equal work, both in the private and federal employment sectors. Women have entered the workforce in large numbers since the 1950s, but they have yet to gain equal pay for equal work. The current bill that passed the House on January 9, 2009, and is waiting for a vote in the Senate, is a vehicle to reduce disparities between a man and woman’s wages and educate employers on how they can work to end wage disparities.  NETWORK strongly encourages the Senate to take up this bill during its lame-duck session and make progress toward ending wage discrimination in America.
