There are many reasons to participate in public rallies and protests. These gatherings demonstrate the strength and unity of social justice movements, amplify our collective power within local communities, and signal to elected officials at every level what the people expect and deserve. Rallies not only raise visibility around critical issues, but they also give supporters the chance to shape the public narrative and inspire others to action. We recognize that rallies and protests alone will not solve the challenges that our nation currently faces. But, they are a powerful tool!
Here are steps that you can take to make your participation in a local rally, protest, or prayer vigil as strategic and impactful as possible:
- Bring a friend! Recent polling found that 21% of people would like to take action to oppose recent policies but have not yet done so. Your personal invitation (and presence) can help make that first step easier and less scary.
- Bring a sign. Share your views and help shape the narrative. Use few words (six or fewer) and a clear message. NETWORK has downloadable signs that are easy to print at home.
- Take photos. Photos are an important way we build a sense of our power. Share them on social media and send an email to NETWORK.
- Meet the event organizers. If your local event is small enough, and you have the chance to introduce yourself to the event organizers, please do so! It’s a great way to show support and build a relationship that could be strategic for future collaboration.
- Meet those standing around you. Build connections that sustain the movement. Ask people why they came, listen to their story, exchange contact information, and consider meeting again. Invite them to take action on one of the policies we are advancing.

On October 18, millions of people across the nation and around the world will attend rallies in their communities as part of the No Kings day of action. NETWORK has signed on as an official co-sponsor and we hope you will attend a No Kings near you!
No Thrones. No Crowns. No Kings. Together we will proclaim that the United States of America is not ruled by kings, dictators, or billionaire donors. In our country, elected leaders are expected to serve our communities with dignity, care, and justice. The U.S. belongs to We the People–the people who care about welcoming communities, show up to demand affordable health care for all, and advocate for dignity so that everyone thrives, no exceptions.
