WASHINGTON—The new season of the Just Politics podcast will explore urgent political issues through the lenses of scapegoating, Catholic Social Teaching, and what its guests are doing to meet the “moral moment.” The podcast, produced in collaboration between NETWORK Lobby for Catholic Social Justice and U.S. Catholic magazine, returns June 3 for its fifth season.
“We knew it was essential to approach our politics from the view of who’s being harmed most by today’s policy and rhetoric,” said Just Politics co-host Colin Martinez Longmore of NETWORK’s Communications Team. “Immigrants, our LGBTQ+ neighbors, and the millions of people who stand to lose health care, food, and even their homes under the current budget reconciliation bill are all scapegoated or targeted or some way in our current politics. We have a duty to call this out and show it as counter to the beliefs of Christians and all justice-seekers.”
“Senator Cory Booker called this time a “moral moment.” This season, we are talking with faith-filled justice seekers who are showing up and meeting this moral moment in their own communities.,” said Sr. Eilis McCulloh, HM, Just Politics co-host and member of NETWORK’s Grassroots Mobilization team.
Guests in the new season include Sr. Janet Kinney, CSJ, tax justice advocate Sarah Christopherson, Catholic LGBTQ+ activist Yunuen Trujillo, and Rev. Dr. Cassandra Gould of Faith in Action.
Other episodes include a conversation with some of NETWORK’s Sr. Carol Coston Fellows about issues facing young adults and a dialogue about building relationships across conservative-progressive lines with former GOP National Chairman Michael Steele.
