Giovana Oaxaca

Government Relations Associate

Giovana Oaxaca Najera recently graduated from Pacific University with a Bachelor’s in Politics and Government and Economics. Before joining NETWORK as a government relations associate, she previously interned with an economics, finance, and planning firm, as a congressional intern, and participated in local politics through local measures and campaigns. Giovana has work experience as a campaign manager and director for a local candidate, and broader experience working for a congressional reelection campaign as campaign assistant. For her bachelor’s degree, Giovana wrote two senior theses on the topics of healthcare and politics, and health outcomes and income inequality.

Where do you find inspiration for your work?
I am very passionate about economic and social justice. My inspiration for the work I do is derived from my lived experience and from observing that of others. I believe in fostering compassion, building trust, and creating change, both at an individual level and on a larger stage.

What do you love outside of work?
-Creating art and experiencing art
-Trying new foods
-My family, friends, and dog, Chief
-The weather in the Pacific Northwest

Originally from: Cd. Juarez Chihuahua, Mexico but raised in Beaverton, Oregon.

Why do you like D.C.?
D.C. looks and feels like a melting pot, and I am learning to love and appreciate the diversity in thought, food, culture, and politics. It is also very exciting to be at the center of where national policy decisions get made surrounded by historical landmarks and buildings.
