WASHINGTON, D.C. – In response to the advancement of the Senate budget resolution, which could pave the way for the repeal of the Affordable Care Act (ACA), Sister Simone Campbell, SSS, Executive Director of NETWORK Lobby for Catholic Social Justice and leader of Nuns on the Bus issued the following statement:

“Republicans in Congress are playing politics with the lives of millions of people. This is wrong for our nation. Congress should focus on listening to the cries of the 20 million Americans who could lose healthcare because of their action.

“Catholic Sisters, many of whom work with the very people whose health is at risk, know that ensuring healthcare for our people is a crucial part of any prolife stance. Catholic teaching is clear: healthcare is a right, and we must always prioritize the people who are vulnerable and at the economic margins of our society. We expect Republican members of Congress to heed that message, and not turn their backs on their constituents who benefit from the Affordable Care Act. Catholic Sisters and the other members of NETWORK Lobby will not rest while healthcare is at risk. Congress must not repeal the Affordable Care Act without having a comprehensive replacement.”
