Press Call: Religious Leaders Speak Out against Trade Injustice & Fast Track Authority

FOR RELEASE: February 17, 2015

CONTACT: Stephanie Niedringhaus, 202-347-9797 x224, [email protected]

Call coincides with release of letter to all Members of Congress opposing Fast Track signed by 33 major Faith Groups, including the Leadership Conference of Women Religious (LCWR), American Friends Service Committee, American Jewish World Service, United Methodist Church General Board of Church and Society, and Conference of Major Superiors of Men (CMSM)*

WASHINGTON, DC— Prominent faith leaders will speak out in opposition to Fast Track Authority, which would allow Congressional approval of trade agreements such as the Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP) with little or no debate. This means that the voices of people directly impacted by such trade agreements would not be heard and that business interests would prevail. Instead, justice calls for a process that ensures broad consultation, transparency, meaningful participation, and protections for vulnerable communities, workers and the environment.
