Catholic Social Justice Lobby: Vote Yes to Help Terrified Children
Sr. Simone: “We have a communal duty to these children fleeing violence. This spending package is a just response to terrified children in need.”

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, the House of Representatives will vote on the Fiscal Year 2020 Labor-HHS-Education appropriations package, which provides critical funding for the Office of Refugee and Resettlement and support for children at the Southern Border. The Catholic Sisters and activists of NETWORK Lobby for Catholic Social Justice strongly support this spending package. NETWORK issued the following statement:

Sister Simone Campbell, SSS, Executive Director of NETWORK Lobby for Catholic Social Justice said:

“For those who have much, much is expected. The House is leading the way to responsibly fund the government, while ensuring that programs for the common good are strengthened. This spending package includes desperately needed funding that will address the crisis that President Trump has created at our Southern border. We have a communal duty to these children fleeing violence. This spending package is a just response to terrified children in need.”

Laura Peralta-Schulte, Senior Government Relations Advocate for NETWORK Lobby for Catholic Social Justice said:

“The Catholic Sisters and activists of NETWORK support the FY20 Labor-HHS-Education appropriations package. The critical investment in the Office of Refugee and Resettlement will provide much needed funding for unaccompanied child migrants. Sacred scripture instructs people of faith about how we should treat migrants. It is our communal duty to welcome the stranger. This is not a political issue for the faith community, it is a matter of justice. We are proud to support this spending package.”
