NETWORK Applauds House Passage of Equality Act and Healthcare Package
Sr. Simone: “We’re a little bit closer to mending the gaps in healthcare and equal protection.”

WASHINGTON, D.C. – This week, the House of Representatives passed H.R. 5, the Equality Act, and H.R. 987, the Strengthening Health Care and Lowering Prescription Drug Costs Act. The Catholic Sisters and activists of NETWORK Lobby for Catholic Social Justice supported both of these common good bills. NETWORK issued the following statement:

Sister Simone Campbell, SSS, Executive Director of NETWORK Lobby for Catholic Social Justice said:

“The passage of this healthcare improvement package and the Equality Act shows that Congress can indeed respond to the needs of our people and communities. After Catholic activists flooded Congressional offices with calls and visits, we’re a little bit closer to mending the gaps in healthcare and equal protection. Now, I call on our Senators to recognize the nationwide, bipartisan support for these measures and pass them into law.”

Sister Quincy Howard, OP, Government Relations Specialist for NETWORK Lobby for Catholic Social Justice said:

“It’s great news that the House passed H.R. 987 and H.R. 5 to lower drug prices, stabilize the Affordable Care Act, and protect our LGBTQ+ friends and colleagues from discrimination. The Catholic Sisters and activists of NETWORK are proud to support these bills. Now, we urge the Senate to take up these vital pieces of legislation and pass them into law.”
