NETWORK Lobby Applauds Supreme Court Decision on Affordable Care Act Lawsuit

Mary J. Novak: “Catholic Social Justice teaches us that access to economically and racially just health care is a human right that must be protected.”

WASHINGTON, D.C. — NETWORK Lobby for Catholic Social Justice celebrates today’s Supreme Court ruling in California v. Texas. Ensuring the Affordable Care Act is protected is a major victory for more than 30 million people who relied on the ACA for lifesaving care in the midst of a deadly pandemic. Despite repeated efforts to abolish the Affordable Care Act, the law providing vital benefits and care prevails.

Mary J. Novak, Executive Director of NETWORK Lobby for Catholic Social Justice:

“By upholding the constitutionality of the Affordable Care Act, tens of millions of our neighbors maintain their access to care, but our work is not complete. Catholic Social Justice teaches us that access to economically and racially just health care is a human right that must be protected.

“We continue to work towards building a new system that provides health care for all and eliminates racial and economic disparities in health and wellbeing.”

Sister Emily TeKolste, SP, Grassroots Organizer for NETWORK Lobby for Catholic Social Justice:

“Today the Supreme Court made the right decision to uphold the constitutionality of the ACA. My Catholic faith teaches that it is a moral imperative to provide health care.  I have seen firsthand how this law, which is a lifeline for millions, has changed the lives of individuals, families, and communities. Because of the Affordable Care Act, I could afford health insurance when I was in my 20s.

“Our federal policies must meet the needs of all still seeking affordability and accessibility in our health care system. Justice-seekers across the country are ready to keep organizing and lobbying for needed health care reforms in our nation.”
