FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: June 10, 2026
WASHINGTON, D.C.—In response to the vote on a budget bill that allots $70 billion to Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) and Customs and Border Patrol (CBP) without any oversight or reform, NETWORK Executive Director Laurie Carafone issued the following statement:
“NETWORK takes seriously the Christian call to love our neighbor in both word and deed, including through public policy. The budget bill that has been advanced along partisan lines by lawmakers in Congress is a testament of misplaced priorities. At a time when people of all backgrounds struggle to afford health care, housing, food, and more, Congress has voted to fast-track $70 billion more to immigration enforcement without any reforms or oversight. In addition, Congress is poised to allocate several billions more through the annual appropriations process kicking off this month.
“Instead of investing in programs to uphold the dignity of families and make life more affordable for those struggling to buy groceries and pay rent, Congress is opting for more injustice. ICE and CBP have used their enormous budgets to separate families, detain families with children, enter homes without warrants, and evade accountability for the fatal shootings of U.S. citizens on our city streets. This bill maintains the status quo.
“NETWORK vows to continue our advocacy for a moral budget that promotes an Economy for All, and to keep urging Congress to spend our tax dollars on programs that deliver what families need now and into the future.”
