Catholic Lobby Celebrates House Passage of Dream and Promise Act, Farm Workforce Modernization Act
Ronnate Asirwatham: “The lives of Dreamers, Farmworkers, and TPS holders are all at risk until the Senate passes these reforms into law.”

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, the House took their first steps toward a pathway to citizenship for all 11 million undocumented Americans by passing the Dream and Promise Act and the Farm Workforce Modernization Act. Catholics have long advocated for the creation of a humane immigration system, and the Catholic Sisters of NETWORK Lobby for Catholic Social Justice celebrate this faithful immigration legislation.

The Dream and Promise Act and the Farm Workforce Modernization Act reflect the Catholic Social Teaching that recognizes every human being’s contribution and inalienable worth. Passing this legislation is a moral imperative, and it has bipartisan support across the country. These bill have support from Democratic and Republican lawmakers, and creating a pathway to citizenship for all undocumented Americans is supported by 64% of Americans. The Senate must immediately take up these faithful bills and pass them into law.

Ronnate Asirwatham, Government Relations Director for NETWORK Lobby for Catholic Social Justice said:

“Today is a day for all Americans to celebrate. House passage of the Dream and Promise Act and the Farm Workforce Modernization Act is our nation’s first step toward finally creating a pathway to citizenship for all undocumented immigrants. We are only here due to the brave and tireless work of immigrant youth who continue to believe in the American dream, despite despair all around them.  While we celebrate today, we have more work to do. The lives of Dreamers, Farmworkers, and TPS holders are all at risk until the Senate passes these reforms into law. None of us is safe until all of us are safe and can live in dignity. The Senate has a chance to give back to the immigrant communities who have given so much and been the backbone of America for so long.”
