WASHINGTON – Today, in response to the U.S. Fifth Circuit Court of Appeals ruling against the Obama administration in Texas v. United States, NETWORK released the following statement:

“NETWORK is disappointed by the Fifth Circuit’s decision to deny family unity to millions of Americans,” said Sister Simone Campbell, SSS, Executive Director, NETWORK. “Our nation is a country of immigrants, and it is time for political leaders to recognize that reality. While we urge the Supreme Court to make this issue a priority, we know that executive and judicial action is only a temporary fix. We need Speaker Ryan to bring immigration reform up for a vote.”

The ruling upholds a lower court’s injunction against the Deferred Action for Parents of Americans (DAPA) program and expansion of the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program. Both protect immigrant children and families from being separated through deportation.

NETWORK, A National Catholic Social Justice Lobby, which educates, organizes, and lobbies for economic and social transformation, has a more than 40-year track record of lobbying for critical federal programs that support those at the margins and prioritize the common good.
