WASHINGTON – Today, in response to President Obama’s common-sense actions to reduce gun violence, NETWORK Executive Director Sister Simone Campbell said:

“My heart aches that gun violence in the United States is all too common. Month after month we mourn more victims of senseless violence, yet none of our national leaders have done anything to change this painful reality.

“Pope Francis has challenged us ‘to become painfully aware, to dare to turn what is happening to the world into our own personal suffering, and thus discover what each of us can do about it.’

“Today President Obama has taken action to do what he can while Congress has refused to act. It is urgently needed that we take a step beyond lamentation toward action to effectively prevent further killing.

“We, as a people, must move to action rather than be mired by apathy. NETWORK is grateful that President Obama has done just that.”
