Catholic Social Justice Lobby: Supreme Court Throws Out GOP Intimidation Scheme
Sr. Simone: “We are grateful that cooler views prevailed.”

WASHINGTON, D.C. – The Supreme Court has ruled in favor of the American people in Department of Commerce v. New York, throwing out the Republican scheme to intimidate immigrants. The Catholic Sisters and activists of NETWORK Lobby for Catholic Social Justice applaud this decision. NETWORK issued the following statement:

Sister Simone Campbell, SSS, Executive Director of NETWORK Lobby for Catholic Social Justice said:

“I’m relieved to see that the Supreme Court, which can be so divided along partisan lines, recognized that this Republican scheme to reduce the count in the 2020 Census was an attempt at crass manipulation of the data by the Trump Administration. This is how the rule of law is supposed to work. We are grateful that cooler views prevailed.”

The Sisters and activists of NETWORK demand that President Trump’s Commerce Department ends this crusade to add a harmful Citizenship Question to the 2020 Census and instead focuses on ensuring an accurate count.
