Catholic Lobby Welcomes Re-Introduction of Legislation to Restore our Democratic Systems
Sr. Quincy: “The For the People Act must be the first and foundational legislation of 2021 to protect the civic sacrament of voting and transform our government.”

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) re-introduced H.R. 1, the For the People Act, as the first piece of legislation in the 117th Congress. H.R. 1 will fix our broken democratic systems and protect the vote from attempts to subvert the will of the people.

Sister Quincy Howard, OP, Government Relations Specialist for NETWORK Lobby for Catholic Social Justice said:

“Today, Speaker Pelosi has re-introduced the most critical piece of legislation for the future of our democracy. The For the People Act is a bold and comprehensive solution to the brokenness of our democratic systems that was laid bare in the 2020 election and President Trump’s subsequent attempts to subvert the will of the voters.

“This bill will protect voters’ access to the ballot, curb the influence of money in politics, and end partisan redistricting. The For the People Act must be the first and foundational legislation of 2021 to protect the civic sacrament of voting and transform our government.”
